Sunnymeade (B/D)

First stop today is Ralph Bristow’s Barwitian Garden. This new naturalistic, perennial based garden is a ‘tour de force’ in design and plant selection. Ralph gardens as he paints, in bold blocks of bright colour. When you’re in the garden you’re completely immersed and floating. As you move through it, you are drawn to its exquisite detail. Spend time with Ralph and bring a notepad!

We are heading into the Strathbogie Ranges, Hume and Hovell country, along tree-lined country road to visit to Sunnymeade, the ‘Magnum Opus’ of Craig Irving. Craig was influenced by Arts and Crafts-inspired gardens in UK, so his garden is a series of inter-connecting garden rooms. For the last forty years, Craig Irving has followed his passion for plants to create a garden that makes his heart sing!

You will be feeling horticulturally saturated as we head back to Sebel Pinnacle Valley Resort. Dinner is included tonight in the hotel restaurant.

Lakithi Garden (B/D)

Our destination today is Hepburn Springs in the Central Victorian Goldfield. First stop is Gail van Rooyen’s sensational Lakithi Garden in the beautiful Strathbogie Ranges. Gail loves flowers: roses, crabapples, clematis, poppies, echium, dogwood, flowering cherry, smoke bush and so much more. It’s a romantic blend of formal and informal spaces, cleverly designed to maintain and enhance vistas to her dam and paddocks beyond. Set on seven acres, this garden has evolved from a paddock, over 30 years. There’s a picking garden, birdhouse, meadow garden, a dam with summer house, rose beds, floral beds, cherry walk, orchard, veg patch, and a magical forest.

Travel onto Hepburn Springs with a lunch stop in Seymour. Check into our hotel for the next three nights.

Babbington Park (B/L)

Meet Annie Smithers this morning at Babbington Park. Annie and her partner Susan are carving out a self-sustaining existence here. There are two acres of fruit and vegetables to supply their estate and also Annie’s restaurant ‘du Fermier’ in nearby Trentham. Flower gardens supply blooms to decorate the chapel and the restaurant. There are cows, goats, sheep, chickens, geese and ducks. Annie is treading gently on her earth. She is encouraging her visitors and her restaurant patrons to do the same. Annie will have lunch ready for us at ‘du Fermier’ in Trentham. What a treat!

Return to Bellinzona in Hepburn Springs with the evening free to wander around this pretty town.

David Glenn's Lambley (B/L)

David Glenn’s Lambley is world-renowned as a benchmark in sustainable gardening. David will explain all aspects of this complex suite of gardens as he leads us through his masterwork. Spring has sprung; dreamy, romantic, and tough. Explore the Mediterranean Garden, the Dry Garden, Vegetable and Flower Cutting Gardens. David is a “master gardener”, always happy to chat and share his incredible knowledge. It’s a real treat to walk through the gardens with him.

A treat today at Ceres Homestead with our host, Jane Charles who has restored this beautiful old property to its glory days. Built in 1864 by Thomas Bath, the first licensee on the Ballarat goldfields and famously embellished for the visit in 1867 by Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh. Jane will show us her magnificent home, refurbished outbuildings and her garden. And she will host us at a long table luncheon. Another day to remember!

Peter Shaw's Garden (B/D)

Travel to Anglesea to visit a unique coastal garden on the Great Ocean Road. Set beneath a canopy of majestic stringybark gums, this distinctively Australian garden is a living example of how thoughtful design can harmonise with the natural environment. Sculptural grass mounds greet visitors, clipped native shrubs, and winding gravel paths that lead through a landscape rich in texture and form. The garden features dry stone walls, a fire pit, and artistic plantings that reflect both resilience and creativity. It is more than a garden—it’s a story of transformation, family, and coastal living.

Free time in Barwon Heads for lunch (own expense), then travel by ferry across Port Phillip Bay to Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula.

Check into our hotel for the next three nights.

Broughton Hall (B/L)

We are heading to Gippsland to visit two quite exceptional gardens. First stop is Marian Sommes’ ‘Picardy’. Marian and Bryce have created their dream home and garden over the last 28 years. The garden complements a French style rammed earth home, mud brick barn, dovecote and ‘palais de poulet’. This abundant garden is crammed with roses, iris, lavender and colourful, textured perennials. House walls are draped in roses! Flowery walks (crab apple and dogwood) lead to open spaces filled with old fashion roses. Herb garden, vegetable garden, orchard and olive grove complete the picture. It’s a touch of Provence in country Victoria! Marian will serve lunch on the terrace!

Next stop is David Musker’s Broughton Hall, a formal garden that sits comfortably on a hill overlooking the Tarago Reservoir. Set in rolling dairy country, Broughton Hall is grand, colourful and colour coded! David will show us through his series of terraced gardens, each with its own character.

Cruden Farm (B/L)

Cruden Farm this morning, one of Australia’s most iconic and beautiful country gardens. It’s the garden and former home of the late Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, who arrived here as a young bride 80 years ago. Dame Elisabeth loved this garden that she carefully designed and planted with head gardener Michael Morrison. There are many garden rooms; borders, picking garden, shrub walks and the famous avenue of 100 lemon-scented gums that leads to the house.

Farewell Lunch at Merricks Store.

Afternoon visit to Attila Kapitany’s Succent Garden, an extraordinary collection of architectural agaves, aloes and yuccas amid colourful ground-covering succulents and Australian bottle trees in a series of terraced garden rooms. Established progressively over the past 14 years on a 0.4-hectare house block, the garden is enclosed by a boundary hedge of conifers and opens to a view of a large ornamental lake.
